Mansions of Madness – Characters

•November 16, 2017 • Leave a Comment

Ok, as I promised yesterday here are some of the characters of Mansions of Madness boardgame. The original ones came with a thin black round base. After the paint process I’ve changed the base with a transparent one so that the map can be visible during the game. I hope to paint all ’em soon so I can start playing 😉

Moving to Boardgames

I love miniatures, I love paint them and I love play. Unfortunately where I live there’s no gaming community, so I had to find some game to play in family and solo. Some old games (Heroquest, Talisman, Warhammer quest for example) are enjoyable even solo so I started to look around for boardgames using miniatures and I ended buying many (mainly Fantasy themed) 😀

Mansions of Madness (first edition with all expansions), Pandemic Cthulhu, Zombicide Black Plague, Descent, Zombies!!! are just few and my wishlist is growing. In the meanwhile I’m moving home so I’ve not yet started to paint or even opening those boxes. This blog will remain and I’m gonna post images of those painted miniatures. I also have many unpainted Mordheim/Warhammer miniatures on my backlog so still to finish ’em all.

MORDH – Boxed Mordheim Stuff

•July 18, 2017 • Leave a Comment

Those days I’m making and painting mostly WHQ minis, board sections, and cards so in the next days I’ll show you my progress 😉

In the meanwhile I’m making room for the new arrivals and I thought to show you something from my collection of Mordheim. Many months ago I finally found the boxed version of something City of The Damned and I keep it in my collection. Here they are:

Main box of the Basegame. Is the italian version; the buildings are unpunched, like most of the miniatures. Just the Skaven have been painted. Minor rip on the back of the box.

This is a part of the content, rulebook and getting started are in italian and keep them with other manuals.

Here’s the Blood on The Streets expansion. This one is also unpunched with all pieced on the sprues. 🙂 I found it for few bucks 😉

Moving to warbands I own just a couple boxed: Sisters of Sigmar and Human Mercenaries.

All other stuff is painted and without the box, cause I got it from different sellers during the last years. And here’s a group pictures of all together 🙂

WHQ – Board sections

Ok, after thinking, searching for inspiration on the web and trying different techniques I finally found the solution that best fit my needs. The inspiration came from Deathblow Magazine where they show a custom dungeon made with cork. I wanted something similar and searching on different stores found a PVC material with textures on it. Making some tests found it as the best solution.

Here are some steps:

_DSC7155First I’ve cut the squares from the big PVC sheet in squares 3,1cm x 3,1cm

_DSC7166Then I’ve glued them on a thin cardboard

_DSC7156When the glue was dry the paint process started

_DSC7157The pieces where cut again

I’ve decided not to make they exactly the same size and distance just to have a more “realistic” feel.

Warhammer-Quest-box.jpg

Hey, many months have passed since my last post here. What happened?

Well, my job took much more time and I’ve taken a break from miniatures. I’ve not made anything else Mordheim related, but I’ve added new games to my collection; between all those two are my favourites: Advanced HeroQuest (AHQ) and Warhammer Quest (WHQ).

I’m not talking about the latest release from GW, which looks horrible to me, but the ’90 one.

What I’m gonna do in the next posts is an update, a work in progress, of my project. At first I thought that WHQ was too expensive so I decided to build one by myself since on the net you can find all scans for cards and board sections; I’ve also found almost all the miniatures. The hard part was to find the Warrior and the box (or even some scans of it). Also the game was not translated to Italian and since I play boardgames with my daughters I started to translate and print cards too. 🙂

I was happy with the printed board sections but I wanted something to work on, something that looks more unique so I’ve started to make my 3D board sections. I thought I could return on my blog and update my progress here; hope to update it more frequently and to share with you my ideas. 🙂

Recast / Proxy metal miniatures

•March 10, 2015 • 1 Comment

There are some posts around talking about fake miniatures; I’m not gonna cut/paste them here but instead I’m sharing with you the few things I know and use to spot them.

Today I received the package of an auction I won on eBay of a Casualty figure for Mordheim. The picture was not very clear, but looking at feedbacks of the user I was quite sure to grab a genuine miniature. One of the tricks to know before buying something “Rare” is to look at the user’s feedback. Sometimes you see a very hard to find miniature and if you check the recent sold items you can spot the same item sold different times. How can he own so many copies of those hard-to-find items? So maybe you’d better contact him and ask more informations.

In this case 100% positive feedbacks and all items were different, so I thought everything was ok. As soon as I opened the envelope I saw some little signs that spotted the fake miniature: the sward was not aligned (pic 1); the head was shifted, and so the torso. Feet and legs were also “shifted”.

So I contacted the seller and we resolved the issue; he didn’t knew about this, so I looked at some other items he’s selling and by the pictures I spotted few others with the same problem and reported to him. It’s an honest seller who refound my money and removed the bad copies. he didn’t knew about this, so I decided to give my little contrib on how to recognise them. On metal it’s not easy to spot because there are some very well made. The main problem is that we pay copies like genuine ones; I hope that this little post can help you in some way. 🙂

Dat Witch!

Hey guys, I’m so excited, I can’t believe I ever did it. Yesterday I had to meet a guy selling some miniatures to fill the gaps of my collection… looking at all the minis, I started to pick the ones I was interested in (will show you in the next days) and then my attention was caught by a model between them.. unpainted, mint… at first I thought I was wrong but then I got her in my hands.. the original Mordheim Witch! 😀 every other model lost my interest.. so here she is:

Mordheim Witch

Until today I thought I never had this model (I also payed just few bucks, and this made me more happy 😀 ) so I got 2 models to replace her. If you’re looking for good alternatives I suggest to find one of these; the first is from Citadel, the second one is from Grenadier. Good luck.

Here’s the captain I finished painting yesterday, so my Witch Hunter warband is ready to hit the tables. The next paintings will be the hounds. 😀

Mordheim cards

•February 25, 2015 • Leave a Comment

One of the big “issue” playing Mordheim was to find on the roster the values of each single miniature, especially if you don’t give ’em names, and look on the “to shot” and “to hit” tables. I decided to take single pic of each one and make custom cards with all the values so I can spot  by the image which mini is acting.

They’re printed on photographic paper to have a better look. I’m thinking about making custom for the ones interested; you can provide me the picture of your miniatures and I can send you a printed version including all the values, weapons and tables; text can be in any language. mine is Italian, so you can see it in the pictures. The price may vary between the number of ordered cards. For any info you can get in touch with me. 🙂

Here are some samples of Cult of Possessed and Sisters of Sigmar.

Town Cryer miniature

I finally found the time to paint some miniatures laying on my workbench. one of my favourite is for sure the Town Cryer (you can find the rules for using it on TC issue 22). I found the inspiration on witch-hunter blog. Here is it:
